Frequently Asked Questions

Roxar™ 2600 MPFM is available in 6 sizes, with material options ranging from duplex stainless steel to Inconel, a choice of flange types and pressure ratings, and enclosures in SS316 or painted aluminum.

Based on operator-provided application data - including expected flow rates, H2S levels, design pressure, and installation location - Emerson recommends a project-specific meter configuration tailored to the operator’s requirements and preferences. This flexibility supports offshore and onshore applications, from single-well measurement to commingled flow from multiple wells, including extreme sour service in accordance with NACE MR0175/ISO 15156, where required.

Roxar™ 2600 MPFM is a small, compact, all-in-one solution, easing installation challenges. The meter has all measurement points integrated into a compact meter body and the electronics are mounted directly onto the meter, making installation straight forward. The meter shall be installed vertically, requiring limited straight pipe lengths. Weight, footprint and piping integration are optimized for offshore, modular design and brownfield retrofits. This makes it ideal for crowded topside modules, well test skids and onshore production facilities with layout constraints.

Yes, Roxar™ 2600 MPFM can be delivered in skid if required. It may be more efficient for the meter to be installed inline rather than in a skid arrangement, due to space, weight and the ease of installation of the measurement instrument. For example, if the meter is to be installed in one location permanently, it is often easier to install the meter directly in the flow line, but if the meter will be used for mobile well testing, a skid is highly beneficial.

Roxar™ 2600 MPFM is designed to tolerate sand production with minimal to no impact on performance or mechanical integrity. The meter uses robust materials and mechanical design with no moving parts. This minimizes erosion risk and ensures long-term durability. While excessive sand may gradually erode the venturi throat, field experience shows the impact to be small and manageable.

Roxar™ 2600 MFPM is suitable for production systems with sand production, including unmanned platforms.

While meters can sometimes be provided in the same nominal pipe diameter as the flowline, selecting the optimal meter size is not solely based on pipe size. For multiphase flow measurement, accurate performance depends on matching the meter to the expected flow conditions (such as flow rates, phase fractions, and pressure).

Roxar™ 2600 Multiphase Flow Meter offers a wide operating envelope, allowing flexibility across varying well conditions. To ensure the best measurement accuracy and turndown capability, Emerson performs a detailed sizing evaluation using flow data supplied by the operator. Based on this analysis, we may recommend a meter size that differs from the pipe diameter but delivers significantly better performance and reliability across the full lifetime of the well/s.

Roxar™ 2600 MPFM requires minimal maintenance with periodic validation rather than frequent recalibration. The meter has no moving parts, reducing wear and maintenance needs, and a robust design, reducing failures and the need for spare parts. Emerson will provide a specific recommendation after reviewing the demands of the application, with a typical recommendation being yearly checks and verification. Calibration is typically verified using test separator data or sampling and maintenance mainly involves inspection and diagnostics review. This approach particularly suits offshore platform, where intervention is costly and often limited.

Roxar™ 2600 MPFM supports standard industrial communication protocols for seamless integration into control systems. The meter interfaces with DCS, SCADA and digital protocols such as Modbus and OPC UA, both industry standard communication protocols, and HTTPS for secure data access and integration. It provides real-time data on phase flow rates, GVF, water cut and diagnostics for monitoring and optimization. This enables integration with production management systems and remote monitoring solutions. Roxar™ 2600 MFPM is widely used in digitally connected offshore and onshore oil and gas production environments.

The input requirements for multiphase flow meters can vary from vendor to vendor, with some key staples such as fluid properties.

For Roxar™ 2600 MPFM, inputs requirements are hydrocarbon composition and water density and conductivity. If a hydrocarbon composition is not available, a typical composition can be used, adjusted based on measured oil density from a sample in field during commissioning. For highest accuracy, hydrocarbon composition from lab analysis is recommended, as fluid PVT data improves modeling accuracy and phase calculations, particularly in the conversion to standard conditions. This supports automated production monitoring in digital oilfield environments. Other MPFM suppliers may have input requirements such as phase mass absorption coefficient or liquid droplet size in addition, however these are not required for the Roxar™ 2600 MPFM.

Roxar™ 2600 MFPM offers wide rangeability across varying flow rates and compositions. The meter supports high turndown ratios, further enhanced by the ability to replace the venturi to adjust to declining flow rates later in a wells lifetime, if needed. The meter maintains accuracy across production decline and ramp-up phases, reducing the need for equipment replacement over time. Roxar™ 2600 MPFM is ideal for fields with variable production profiles.

Roxar™ 2600 MPFM provides high accuracy multiphase flow measurement for all phases within the full range of flowing conditions, 0-100% GVF and 0-100% WLR. Performance specifications for multiphase meters are not directly comparable to single phase measurement instruments, as the flowing conditions are very different. Where single phase devices see one phase and define an accuracy on their instrument accordingly, multiphase meters have multiple phases in the flow to consider at all times. For example, if one phase is very small, under 1% of the total flow, a small deviation on measurement can be a higher percentage when considered only relative to the volume of that particular phase. Therefore, multiphase meter performance specifications reflect different percentages of uncertainty depending on the relationship to the total flow.

With Roxar™ 2600 MPFM, a sizing calculation is prepared based on the actual projected flow from the operator and uncertainties are presented specific to the expected flow point examples, enabling more clarity for operators and supporting targeted discussion around anticipated performance in a specific application.
