CeBIT 2008: Knürr goes green

Arnstorf [03,03,2008] – Knürr, one of the leading network specialists, is to present CoolFlex, an innovative new system which takes into account the growing need for greater energy efficiency in computer centers, at this year's CeBIT. Using a mechanical process, it efficiently screens the cold air between rack suites from the warm air, thereby enabling more targeted usage of cooling capacities.

Throughout the world, the number of computer centers as well as server packing densities in racks is increasing all the time. The cooling energy required also increases as the heat load grows. With the price of electricity rising all the time, this situation is far from satisfactory. In the future, efforts must therefore be made to use energy more sparingly and specifically. This is one particular reason why the issue of "Green IT" is on everyone's lips at the moment. This is certain to be the case in March too, when the CeBIT takes place in Hanover.

With its new CoolFlex system, Knürr is making an important contribution towards ensuring that costly cooling energy is used more efficiently. This solution works by protecting the cold air against the warm air given off by the servers. It does this by mechanically containing the "cold aisle" between the racks, thereby preventing the airflows from mixing. This has two major and, more importantly, financial benefits. In the short term, consistently protecting the cooling air reduces electricity costs. This is because the air really does remain cool until it reaches the server and power levels can be reduced as a result. In the long term, the fact that the servers and racks are well cooled means that they last longer. Everyone at Knürr is convinced that CoolFlex will make computer centers "greener" and help to make cost savings.

In addition to the new CoolFlex system, Knürr will be presenting a wide range of other new developments and compelling solutions for computer centers and networks in Hanover.
