Emerson Power Conference Examines Protection Of High-Stakes Telecommunications Networks

Industry experts reflect on business continuity lessons from Hurricane Katrina, focus on emerging trends in reliable power technology

CLEVELAND, OH, May 8, 2006 – Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson (NYSE:EMR) and global leader in enabling Business-Critical Continuity™, launched its 46th Annual Communications Power Conference this week in Cleveland, helping to prepare businesses for new challenges in protecting telecommunications networks from costly failures or interruptions.

"Services today are moving beyond voice and data to incorporate video services, bringing up a number of related network reliability issues," said Ed Feeney, Senior Vice President, Emerson. "As the leading provider of reliable power to the telecommunications industry, Emerson is confident that this gathering of power business leaders will provide the expertise necessary to help our customers better handle business continuity demands to meet their customers’ expectations."

Highlighting the three-day conference is a May 9th panel of industry experts and analysts examining telecommunications network reliability issues, as well as a keynote address from BellSouth on their efforts to protect and restore customer service following Hurricane Katrina. Panel members include:
Darrell Cooper, Vice President-Network Services, BellSouth
Jamie McDougall, Power Network Management, Bell Canada
Jeff Kagan, Telecommunications Analyst
Dick Boyd, Director of Telecommunications Operations, Univ. of Michigan
John Celento, President, Skyline Marketing Group
Emerson Network Power will also share ideas and offer hands-on training for engineers, buyers and managers from the world’s leading telecom companies on the latest DC power technologies for network reliability. Business critical continuity issues for 3G wireless networks, deep fiber deployment, and the latest in fuel cell technologies will be among the dozens of topics presented.

This week’s conference follows record earnings announced for Emerson Network Power last week, which saw second quarter sales increase 31 percent compared to the same period last year, driven in part by the huge demand for telecommunications power solutions.

In addition, Emerson just completed the acquisition of Artesyn Technologies (NASDAQ: ATSN), which brings additional embedded power conversion technologies to Emerson Network Power’s existing portfolio of solutions for customers in the enterprise computing, data, and telecommunications industries.
