100 St. Louis Area Educators to Receive Annual Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award

ST. LOUIS, Nov. 6, 2008 – 100 St. Louis-area educators will be honored this Sunday afternoon with the Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award in recognition of their dedication and commitment to education.

The Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award is one of the St. Louis area’s most prestigious teacher recognition programs.  Educators from both public and private schools and colleges and universities have been hand-picked by their peers or administrators to receive this honor for their dedication to education.  The awards program is sponsored by Emerson, the diversified global manufacturer headquartered in St. Louis.

"Educators play a vital role in fostering the development of our youth," said David N. Farr,  chairman, chief executive officer, and president of Emerson. "It is through programs like Emerson's Excellence in Teaching that we, as a community, are able to recognize professional excellence and thank teachers for their devotion to education."

An invitation-only awards presentation and reception will be held at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Clayton on Sunday, November 9.  Each honoree will be recognized and receive an engraved Tiffany crystal apple.

Betsey Bruce, KTVI Channel 2’s education reporter, will be this year’s master of ceremonies. Robert M. Cox Jr., Emerson’s senior vice president of administration and an official of the Emerson Charitable Trust, will present the awards.
