Switchracks

Switchracks

Whether you are looking for motor control or power distribution, we design custom switchrack solutions to suit your facility’s needs.

Distribution Equipment Appleton

Built to Your Specifications.

Switchracks are custom-engineered and custom-built with the entire assembly pre-wired to customer specifications. They are designed for single-phase and three-phase low voltage power and can be outfitted with motor controls, circuit breakers, panelboards and other components. Completed switchracks are delivered to the customer’s site, providing an electrically and mechanically interconnected, single point solution for controlling electrical infrastructure in hazardous or classifed locations.

Choosing the Right Switchrack

Applications

Switchracks are typically installed outdoors, often in Class I locations exposed to flammable gases, vapors or liquids. In both hazardous and nonhazardous locations, they can be configured to provide resistance to weather, dust, dirt, and corrosion. Switchracks can also be used indoors to provide dust-ignitionproof protection in Class II locations exposed to hazardous flyings, fibers or dusts. In any installation, all equipment must be rated for the environment.

North American Classifications

The National Electrical Code and the Canadian Electrical Code are North American standards for the safe installation and wiring of electrical equipment. Both standards are written by a panel of independent persons in an effort to standardize safe practices in the electrical industry. Although there are similarities between the two Codes, differences still exist and acceptable technical requirements under one Code may not entirely comply with the other.

European Classifications

Organizations in the European Union must follow two directives that provide protection against potentially explosive atmospheres. Manufacturers are required to comply with directive 2014/34/EU; equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. Equipment users must follow directive 99/92/EC; minimum requirements for improving the Health and Safety protection of workers potentially at risk from explosive atmospheres.

Motor Control Centers

MCCs are used for low voltage applications for power distribution and starting and stopping three-phase A/C motors. They consist of one or more vertical metal cabinet sections, power bus and provisions for plug-in mounting of individual devices. Three-phase power enters each starter or breaker through separate connectors which connect directly to one of the vertical buses. Each load is wired to the appropriate cubicle. MCC provides wire ways for routing field control and power cables.

Power Control Rooms

Power control room (PCR) is a building specially constructed to house and protect electrical distribution and control equipment. When there is a viable choice between installing a switchrack or building a dedicated PCR, a switchrack can provide many advantages.  Its structural strength and low profile means it can be placed in a more convenient location. It is inherently corrosion and fire resistant. Typically, installed cost of a switchrack is lower.

Portable Power
