Flow Measurement in Ethylene Plants

Reduce Maintenance Costs and Increase Plant Availability in Ethylene Production
Flow Measurement in Ethylene Plants

Improve Efficiency and Reduce Costs with Reliable Flow Measurement

In the Ethylene production, carbon and coke deposits are created and re-circulated with process water and steam causing clogging in flow meters. A monthly cleaning schedule was established to overcome this issue. As a result, the plant experienced high maintenance cost, and was unable to optimize their production performance. The 8800 Rosemount Dual Vortex Flow Meter has an all-welded body design with no crevices, process seals, or pockets where particles might collect and cause measurement error. In addition, the 8800 dual sensor unit provides two separate flow measurements, allowing one sensor to provide the process control signal, and the other to be used in the SIS loop. Eight years after replacing the existing meters with Rosemount vortex flow meters, none of the units required cleaning. The improved measurement and ability to better control the process resulted in a 2% improvement in plant efficiency and reduced installation cost by eliminating the need for two separate meters.
