Keeping Offshore FPSOs Safe
Offshore floating production storage and offloading units (FPSO) require gas detectors and flame detectors to protect personnel, equipment and the installations themselves. The potential for gas leaks is great, as many types of gas leaks are possible, including hydrocarbons, hydrogen, hydrogen sulfide and more. Each type of gas leak presents its own set of risks. Combustible gas leaks present the additional risk of fire if not detected early and before ignition occurs. Both gas detectors and flame detectors must be able to function under challenging environmental conditions, including harsh winds and extreme temperatures. Emerson offers a variety of Rosemount™ gas monitoring and detection products including ultrasonic leak detection, open path gas detection, point gas detection and wireless gas detection. A combination of these gas detection products along with Rosemount flame detectors, can help keep personnel and equipment in offshore applications safe.

Product Solutions
The Rosemount Incus Ultrasonic Gas Leak Detector utilizes four ultra-sensitive acoustic sensors that constantly monitor wide areas for ultrasound generated from the release of pressurized gas. Ideally suited for monitoring well-ventilated outdoor environments, the ultrasonic gas leak detector has been engineered to withstand the most extreme conditions and is unaffected by inclement weather, wind, leak direction, and gas dilution or stratification.
- Instantaneous response to all gas leaks (toxic gases, combustible gases or inert gases)
- No calibration required
- Quad sensing heads provide the widest overall gas detection range available on the market: 2 to 40 meters (7 to 130 feet)

The Rosemount 928 Wireless Gas Monitor detects hydrogen sulfide (H
2S), carbon monoxide (CO), and oxygen depletion (O
2) in remote applications previously too challenging and costly to monitor. This wireless toxic gas monitoring system enhances worker safety through early gas leak detection, simply integrates with
WirelessHART® technology, and eliminates the need for expensive wiring. The Rosemount 928 Wireless Gas Monitor easily connects to the Rosemount 628 Universal Gas Sensor which consists of a tool-less-hot-swappable smart sensor module.

The Rosemount 935 Open Path Combustible Gas Detector provides continuous monitoring for hydrocarbon gases, even in harsh environments where dust, fog, rain, snow or vibration can cause high amounts of obscuration. This combustible gas detector utilizes infrared technology and has long range detection up to 660 ft (200 m). Worldwide approvals for the Rosemount 935 Open Path Combustible Gas Detector include ATEX, IECEx, FM/FMC, INMETRO, TR CU, and SIL 2 (TÜV).
