Seawater is extracted using pumps and fed into open basins. This application may be executed some distance from the water plants, so level measurement instrumentation is required to ensure a controlled extraction of water and avoid overfilling in the basins. Subsequently, seawater is fed to the plant to undergo settling or aeration processes.

The Rosemount 1208 Series provides accurate and reliable level measurement and open channel flow calculations. The radar level transmitter has been designed to solve challenges in water and wastewater-, utilities- and basic chemical applications. The Rosemount 1208 uses continuous non-contacting radar technology in a compact PVDF housing with drinking water and food grade approvals. The Rosemount 3490 Series provide comprehensive control functionality for 4–20 mA or HART compatible transmitters, such as the Rosemount 1208 Level and Flow Transmitter. The series consist of two models that offer varying levels of control functionality depening on your specific application needs. The Rosemount 3490 Controller enables simple programming through intuative wizards for level and flow measurement to control pumps, totalize flows, log data and calculate differentials. The controller is easy-to-read and has a colored LCD display that offers a simple, intuitive and an user-centric interface.
