Retention ponds are used to hold storm water in the event of heavy rainfalls. These open basins control the water run-off and help to clean the water through sediment settlement. Level measurement is required to calculate the flow of the sewer system and monitor the level of the retention tank. It is important to monitor, record, and log these volumes in order to pinpoint excess volumes during heavy rainfalls.

The Rosemount 3490 Series provide comprehensive control functionality for 4–20 mA or HART compatible transmitters, such as the Rosemount 1208 Level and Flow Transmitter.
