Flour is stored in silos both for bulk shipping and bagging. Accurate level tracking of the flour remaining in the silos is crucial to ensure efficient delivery from the production process, through storage silos, and on to bulk deliveries or bagging. Since flour generates a great deal of dust during both filling and emptying, and since it tends to form buildup on the silo walls, true estimates of material inventory are hard to achieve.
