Accelerating the Transition to Hydrogen Fuel

Accelerating the Transition to Hydrogen Fuel

Sustainability has become an integral part of discussions around energy security and securing economic growth. With the aim of net zero emissions by 2050, many countries have introduced legislation with subsidies, along with public and private investment to encourage the use of renewable energy in place of traditional fossil fuels. Emerson offers a complete portfolio of solutions that address the challenges of hydrogen production, service and blending hydrogen into natural gas pipelines.

Pressure Control in Action

Large Scale Electrolysis

Hydrogen electrolyzer production requires scalable designs and capacity to respond to market demand. Manufacturers must execute projects on-time, on-budget with low complexity. Yet, operate safely, reliably, and profitably using the most advanced technologies. Solutions in action are pressure control, safety relief & pressure relief valves and flame detonation arrestors.

Steam Methane Reforming

Natural gas reforming uses an advanced and mature process that builds upon the existing natural gas availability and infrastructure. In the United States, 95% of the hydrogen produced utilizes natural gas reforming* to enable and meet the demand for hydrogen production. Solutions in action are pressure control, boiler valves & level gauges, and safety relief and pressure relief valves.

Hydrogen Blending Into Natural Gas Grid

Injecting Hydrogen into an existing gas network presents several challenges such as ensuring the consistent blending of hydrogen. To safely distribute hydrogen, the injection pressures must be just right to prevent backflow of pipeline gas to the hydrogen production facility, and/or create unwanted turbulence in the pipeline and to ensure that the right amount of odorization is achieved, and the custody transfer metering is highly reliable. Solutions in action are pressure control, overpressure protection, flow control, odorization, metering & gas analysis.
