New features simplify maintenance and improve testing in the digital twin, and provide a richer training experience in a safe, flexible simulation environment

AUSTIN, Texas (Aug. 8, 2023) – Global software and engineering leader Emerson is expanding the connectivity, modeling capabilities and engineering tools of its digital twin simulation software suite. The newest version of Emerson’s Mimic™ simulation software builds on the successes of the existing architecture, upgrading many tools to provide a more powerful suite of solutions for project engineering, operator training, and performance optimization.

One of the key benefits of digital twin simulation is its ability to train operators in a safe environment while perfectly replicating the interfaces, actions and responses users will see in the real world. In the Mimic suite, Emerson has improved its Mimic Train software with playback features that allow true replay of operator actions in the simulator and control system during an operator training session. Trainers can not only walk the operator through the replay to discuss where they made good decisions or could have tried other options, but also gain the capability to replay to a certain point in time and then resume the simulation from that point, allowing the trainee to explore other options. Operators gain a clearer understanding of where they can improve through this experience, not just an explanation of what should have been done differently.

Mimic has also been improved with automated control system database change management. Mimic Synchronize gives users the ability to automatically synchronize their live production system to the digital twin, making it far easier for teams to ensure the simulation they test and train on accurately reflects the live operating environment. In addition, new device signal tag simulation support for DeltaV™ distributed control systems makes it easier to seamlessly move configuration from the production plant to the simulation environment and back without needing to reconfigure wiring and I/O details.
