Continuous condition-based monitoring of critical electrical assets is being used as a cost-effective way to prevent unplanned downtime and reduce plant maintenance activities.

Many power plant outages are triggered by the unexpected failure of critical electrical assets such as busducts or circuit breakers. In an article published in the April 2017 issue of Power magazine, Emerson’s Jonathan Murray details the most common root causes of electrical asset failures, and looks at the various types of automated sensing systems that utilities are using to predict problems in electrical assets before they lead to lost production, environmental issues, personnel injuries, or damaged equipment.
