Emerson Climate Technologies Hosts E360 Annual Conference Focused on Innovation and Ideation Among Retailers

St. Louis, May 31, 2016 – Emerson Climate Technologies, Inc., a business segment of Emerson (NYSE: EMR), hosted leading retailers for a three-day event, May 9-11, at the new Helix Innovation Center in Dayton, Ohio. The 2016 E360 Annual Conference provided collaborative opportunities for supermarket, convenience store and foodservice professionals to explore innovative solutions to industry issues and share best practices for improving retail facility operations.

“As retailers face increasing challenges, from constantly-changing regulatory requirements to emerging retail formats and pressures related to operating costs and workforce changes, we see incredible value in collaboration and ideation to explore innovative solutions for our industry,” said Ed McKiernan, president of Emerson Climate Technologies’ Retail Solutions business. “This year’s E360 Conference was structured differently with this purpose in mind. We used the collaborative environment of The Helix to engage our customers and business partners in an interactive dialogue about trends and issues impacting our industry.”

Futurist Robert B. Tucker, a leading authority on innovation, delivered a keynote address on that theme setting the conference tone, which led to focused discussions on driving organizational growth as well as collaboration with industry partners. Interactive small group sessions explored various topics relevant to small and large format food retailers today, including facility management best practices, Big Data insights, the Internet of Things and changing regulations. Emerson Climate Technologies facilitators led the group ideation sessions to encourage diverse thinking among attendees and assist with defining key insights and solutions from the discussions.

The Helix is a 40,000-square-foot facility located on the University of Dayton campus. Emerson’s $35 million investment in the innovation center, which officially opened on April 27, offers an ambitious, collaborative approach to creating new technologies that address industry challenges. At The Helix, the E360 Conference leveraged its learning labs, as well as real-world simulated environments, including a 2,500-square-foot model supermarket and a fully operational commercial kitchen, to host engaging discussions among industry peers.

During the conference, a global webinar, “What’s Next in Refrigerants, Energy Management and Food Safety Regulation?”, broadcasted live from The Helix. With nearly 200 attendees onsite and more than 400 online participants, industry expert panelists shared critical insights for retailers on regulations for energy efficiency and refrigerants, and most notably, on the impact of the Food Safety Modernization Act.

“The E360 Conference facilitated an innovative exchange of ideas, helped to define where our industry is headed and addressed innovative ways that retail organizations today are transforming to meet the needs of their customers,” said Dunson. “It is clear that collaboration on creative approaches are needed to unravel industry issues, and we’re excited to continue to use The Helix to explore these solutions together. After three days, we don’t see this as an end to the dialogue, but as the beginning of our work toward a more connected and stronger future together.”
