Vaporizing water flowing through waste heat recovery piping and saturated steam in the drum create the risk for corrosion. Corrosion can ultimately reduce the wall thickness to the point where a steam drum or water tube can no longer hold the pressure, resulting in a leak or tube burst. Because of this, it is critical to continuously monitor for corrosion, as corrosion-related boiler failures and efficiency losses can negatively impact plant efficiency, profitability, and safety.
