Valve Selection for Offshore Wind Farm Applications

Wind farms are rapidly becoming a prime source of sustainable energy due to their zero-carbon footprint. Offshore locations are a more significant source of  power with wind speeds being higher and more consistent. When located more than 100km offshore, wind turbines are connected to a central converter platform which is then connected to the shore. These plateforms are often unmanned and require constant cooling that can only be proved by seawater. Specifying valves for this service can be challenging due to the corrosive nature of the sea water, the impact of sand, particulates, and other debris, and the choice of actuators, due to the lack of compressed air.
