How Fire Suppression Systems Work

Fire Pumps

Fire pumps are used to increase the pressure of water flowing from the utility supply to distributed sprinkler systems. They can be found in most large commercial & industrial buildings and utilize two-way solenoid valve technology to start and stop the flow of cooling water to the pump engine.

Fire Pump Controllers

Fire pump controllers are used to control and operate fire pumps by communicating with a fire detection and automatic sprinkler system. They utilize a two-way solenoid valve as a test drain to simulate the loss of pressure that occurs when a sprinkler system is activated.

Deluge & Pre-Action Systems

Deluge & pre-action valves are used to release water from a utility supply or a fire pump to a distributed sprinkler system. Electrically operated systems are piloted by two and three-way solenoid valves that open upon receiving either a pneumatic or electrical signal.

Inert Gas & Dry Chemical Systems

Inert gas and dry chemical fire suppression systems utilize chemicals stored in either a single large tank or a series of smaller tanks to extinguish fires where water could potentially damage critical infrastructure. Two-way solenoid valves are used as release mechanisms that allows the extinguisher to be distributed to the appropriate sprinkler head.

Commercial Kitchens & School Laboratories

Commercial kitchens, schools and other large facilities utilize natural gas for use with commercial stoves and Bunsen burners in chemistry labs, among other applications. Most kitchens and labs require local gas shutoff capabilities in case of emergencies, and ASCO's solenoid valve technology are purpose-built for these applications.
