Monitor critical process control points of edible oil bleaching

If further color removal is desired after the caustic refining process, the oil may be treated with a combination of bleaching agents. Bleaching involves mixing the adsorbent with the oil and agitating for 10 - 30 minutes. The oil is usually heated to 1652 - 2192ºF and the process occurs under a slight vacuum to exclude oxygen. Bleaching clays are mixed with the oil, either directly or by premixing with a small amount of oil to produce a slurry. After the adsorption processes have reached equilibrium, the clay is filtered out by self-cleaning filters. The filtering process also helps to remove remaining soap, trace metals, phosphatides, and sulfur compounds.

Advanced measurement solutions are used throughout the bleaching process to help edible oil producers meet production goals while maintaining product quality.
