SOROCABA, Brazil (March 6, 2023) – Global technology and software company Emerson has officially inaugurated a rooftop solar energy system at its Sorocaba facility, which will supply up to 70% of the electricity the manufacturing site requires to operate. By increasing the use of renewable energy, the Sorocaba facility is supporting Emerson’s efforts to achieve net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across its own operations by 2030.

The installation features 1,740 solar panels on the facility’s roof to help reduce GHG emissions by up to 130 metric tonnes per year. The Sorocaba solar installation is one of 15 solar installations now operating at Emerson operations and represents one of the region’s most significant clean energy-generating facilities.

“Emerson is a leader in innovative technologies that help make the world healthier, safer, smarter and more sustainable, and we are seeking to live up to this purpose in our own operations,” said Claudio Teixeira, vice president and general manager of Emerson Brazil.

"Operating our facility on clean energy is good for our employees, partners and the surrounding community as Sorocaba strives to be one of Brazil’s most prominent green and innovative cities.”

Emerson established its Brazil headquarters in Sorocaba, located 95 kilometers from Sao Paulo, in 1972 and currently employs more than 400 people at this location. Within its 45,000-square-foot office and manufacturing facility in Sorocaba, Emerson makes magnetic flow meters, control valves, pressure regulators and control systems that help industrial facilities operate safely, reliably and sustainably.

“This solar installation is just one example of Emerson’s commitment to reducing emissions at our sites around the world and gets us one step closer to our 2030 net zero operations targets,” said Mike Train, Emerson’s chief sustainability officer.

“As our largest energy consuming operation in South America, the Sorocaba solar investment marks a key step in driving our sustainability priorities not only in this region, but also around the world.

To optimize operations of the solar energy system, Emerson is implementing the energy monitoring and data analysis capabilities of its Ovation™ Green portfolio of software and automation solutions.
