The DCS Journey at DC Water’s Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant

Shell operates deepwater offshore platforms in the Gulf of Mexico and proper maintenance of Pressure Relief Valves (PRVs) is critical for safety and process availability. Shell worked with Emerson and John H. Carter developing a Spare Pool program that consolidated all spare valves from its platforms in a single inventory system hosted and maintained by John H. Carter. Data integrity is paramount to effective Spare Pool management. Spare valves need to be ready for deployment at each platform enabling a single work permit for removal and installation. Also, regulatory agencies mandate that PRVs installed on offshore platforms must have yearly functional tests and related service records. Emerson’s unique PRV RFID technology improved safety and allowed effective data availability.
