ROSEMONT, IL (MAY 4, 2017) - Emerson's Appleton Mercmaster™ LED Low Profile Luminaire has been awarded 2017 Product of the Year in the Luminaires (Harsh and Hazardous Location) category by Electrical Contracting & Maintenance (EC&M) magazine, the authority for electrical professionals in the industrial and commercial space.

The Appleton Mercmaster™ LED Low Profile luminaries are specially designed for hazardous and industrial lighting applications where mounting heights are typically under 15-feet. With a profile of only six inches, the installed depth is nearly 25 percent less than its nearest competitor and consumes 65 percent less energy than a standard High Intensity Discharge (HID) while delivering up to 5,000 lumens of uniformly distributed light in industries that include chemical, petrochemical and waste water processing. Four replaceable globes provide for adjustable levels of diffusion and light spread to allow one fixture to be effectively used for many different applications, such as stanchion walkway lighting, platform lighting and even higher mounted lighting under pipe-racks, with reduced glare or hot spots. Because these luminaires can be used comfortably and effectively at low mounting heights, they eliminate the need for ladders, which have been prohibited by OSHA regulations, or expensive adjustable maintenance lighting poles and stanchions.

"We are honored that the EC&M panelists recognize the unique way that our design addresses the most common LED design problems of glare, light-spread and uniformity," said Ellen Helm, Manager, Appleton Lighting, Emerson Automation Solutions. "We are always striving to find new ways to improve the way our LED luminaires deliver light to provide the safest working environments for our customers."

As a 2017 Product of the Year, the Mercmaster™ LED Low Profile luminaire is featured in the April edition of EC&M and the May edition of Electrical Wholesaling magazine.

The 2017 EC&M Product of the Year competition received nearly 200 entries in multiple categories. Each entry was thoroughly evaluated by a panel of judges, consisting of electrical professionals from the engineering, contracting, and plant facilities/maintenance industries. Category winners go on to compete for the 2017 Product of the Year Platinum, Gold and Silver awards this summer with winners to be selected by an online readers' poll.

Over the past five years the industrial lighting sector has undergone a transformation shift from traditional lighting sources to LED technology. Emerson has led the way with a broad portfolio of luminaries that merge LED's proven energy efficiencies with specialized hazardous location engineering to strategically serve key markets, such as refining, oil & gas, pulp, paper, and chemical processing. Emerson's Appleton brand, with its Mercmaster™, Code*Master™, Viamaster™ and Areamaster™ families of LED industrial luminaries, is playing a key role in supporting industry's drive for more cost-effective, environmentally-conscious lighting solutions.
