Company invests more than $110 million in Minneapolis metro area, plans to add up to 500 new jobs

SHAKOPEE, MINN (October 21, 2014) – Building upon its leadership in instrumentation and wireless technologies, Emerson Process Management is expanding its operations in the greater Minneapolis area with a new global headquarters for its Rosemount technologies.  Emerson today officially opened its new offices in the city of Shakopee, part of a capital investment of up to $70 million that will also add up to 500 new, highly skilled jobs in Minnesota over five years.

Emerson Process Management, a business of St. Louis-headquartered Emerson, is recognized globally for its Rosemount brand of pressure, temperature, flow, level and wireless measurement instrumentation.  Emerson’s automation technologies and services are widely used in the oil and gas, refining, and petrochemical industries. These industries are experiencing significant growth and driving demand for Emerson’s solutions.

Emerson Process Management also recently invested another $40 million in renovations and upgrades to its Eden Prairie and Chanhassen offices and manufacturing facilities.

Emerson’s operations in Minnesota are leading the company’s push into “pervasive sensing” technologies, which are expected to double the existing $16 billion measurement market over the next 10 years.  Pervasive sensing extends sensors and wireless technologies beyond traditional process controls to other business functions such as site safety and energy management.

“We are experiencing robust growth for our sensing technologies that are vital not only for monitoring our customers’ process operations, but also for providing new ‘eyes and ears’ across the business enterprise to help ensure site safety, reliability, security and energy efficiency,” said Steve Sonnenberg, president of Emerson Process Management.  “These technologies are being developed right here in Shakopee, Chanhassen and Eden Prairie.”

Located on 60 acres in the Valley Park Business Center (6021 Innovation Blvd., Shakopee), the 500,000-square-foot building will be renovated in multiple phases over several years. In this first phase, Emerson has built out offices for more than 500 employees, as well as technology labs, conference rooms, cafeteria and fitness center.  These employees represent engineering, research and development, marketing, sales, finance and operations positions.

Also, within the existing facility, the company will add 200,000 square feet to its regional manufacturing footprint, which is scheduled to be operational in 2015.  Approximately 200 skilled manufacturing positions, including current Chanhassen employees and new hires, will work in this facility in its first phase.

Of the 500 new employees that will be added over five years, 300 represent professional engineering positions and 200 manufacturing production jobs.

State and local incentives have helped finance the development of the facility, with support from the State of Minnesota, City of Shakopee, Scott County, and the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District.

“Emerson's expansions will create hundreds of new jobs over the next several years,” said Governor Mark Dayton. “I congratulate Emerson on its tremendous success, and thank the company for its continued commitment to Minnesota.”

“The City of Shakopee is so pleased to welcome Emerson Process Management and its employees to our community,” said Shakopee Mayor Brad Tabke. “Emerson’s investment in the Shakopee facility illustrates its commitment to the Greater Minneapolis-St. Paul area and our skilled workforce. We look forward to Emerson being a vital part of Shakopee’s vibrant business community for many years to come.”

“I believe that I speak for all of my colleagues on the Scott County Board in expressing how pleased and honored we are to have been a partner in this wonderful new endeavor,” said Scott County Board Chair Tom Wolf.  “This expansion of Emerson – a multi-billion dollar global industry leader – into our community represents how far we have come in our mutual economic development efforts, and indicates how committed we are to fostering and maintaining a good, sustainable business climate in Scott County.”

Emerson Process Management currently has approximately 2,700 employees in Minnesota, including more than 2,100 who support Rosemount technologies in the Shakopee, Eden Prairie and Chanhassen communities.  Rosemount was founded in Minnesota in 1956 and acquired by Emerson in 1976.
