Increase Operational Visibility Across Your Enterprise

To remain competitive in a changing power landscape, utilities are creating centralized, remote operation collaboration centers to optimize resources and improve performance. Integrated control, monitoring and analytics provide valuable prognostic insights that quickly detect the onset of an abnormal condition and guides the control system or the operator to take immediate action. A proactive, fleet-based operational management approach reduces O&M costs, increases revenue and improves safety.

Remote Operation Capabilities

A North American utility is expanding its renewable portfolio by purchasing existing and building new utility-sized solar PV farms across the United States. To minimize O&M costs and improve operational efficiency, Emerson is implementing a phased modernization program, replacing obsolete, disparate SCADA systems for over 100 solar sites with a common platform of integrated technologies and software that connects geographically dispersed plants to a centralized remote operations center.

The hydropower market faces numerous challenges including new operating profiles and a workforce in transition. Emerson’s hydropower portfolio includes remote solutions for secure connectivity from geographically disperse plants to centralized operation centers. We have successfully implemented projects that integrate plant and unit operations along a cascade or across a fleet of hydro generators to reduce costs and downtime while improving operational efficiency.

Natural gas will play a key role as a transitional fuel in meeting net-zero targets. To ensure a reliable energy supply during high demand, one North American utility is working with Emerson to install a single, integrated platform to control and monitor the company’s 4,000 MWs of natural gas-fired peaker plant generation to help more efficiently meet customer needs. The scalable platform will include future integration of renewable and distributed energy resources.

Powering a sustainable future begins with the efficient management of a diversified energy mix. A South American energy company is implementing an Emerson solution that integrates management of solar, energy storage, hydro and traditional generators into a centralized remote operation center. Using one integrated platform, the utility can more easily balance their blended generation portfolio while lowering operational and maintenance costs.
