Emerson Exchange Virtual Series

INVISTA, a global chemical manufacturer, is digitally transforming its facility operations using state-based control (SBC) and digital twin simulation to drive more autonomous and safer plant operations. INVISTA will discuss the successful implementation of SBC on their CP1 process at the Asia Pacific plant. INVISTA partnered with Emerson for the selection, justification, design, and implementation of SBC. Experts assessed the plant’s assets to select which unit operations were candidates for SBC and determined the appropriate level of automation to maximize value. For the selected unit operations, Emerson worked with INVISTA to develop and implement the detailed design, using Emerson’s digital twin solution. The same approach was extended for additional sites in the US.

The Power Industry is looking at new digital technologies to improve reliability, reduce costs, and increase the operational flexibility of its plants and fleets.  One method utilities are exploring is the consolidation of multiple plant operations into a single remote operation center.  The panelist will lead the discussion on the benefits and challenges of moving towards this type of operational model. Air Liquide has a vast array of industrial assets requiring upgrades as well as greenfield applications. Control system installed base is varied and are often tough to support without expensive support contracts or staff increases, which are often hard to come by. The flexibility and versatility of the PK controller are a natural choice for migrating PLC and small standalone specialty controllers given our experience with Emerson and the DeltaV Platform. This presentation will cover our typical use cases as well as our standard approach to consistent, supportable systems in our vast fleet.

Digital transformation is changing how the municipal water & wastewater industry approaches water conveyance and treatment. In this session, we will be highlighting the trends in the municipal water & wastewater industry and the new technologies emerging to support these initiatives.

Three DeltaV systems at S-Chem connected through zone servers were due for an upgrade during a scheduled turnaround. Custom remote mounted workstation solution was not only difficult to maintain but was expensive. Multiple solutions were evaluated and DeltaV virtualization solution was selected to replace existing conventional workstations. This selection was based on higher availability, lower cost of ownership, cybersecurity, and ease of maintenance. After more than 2 years in operations, DeltaV virtualization has delivered more than expected results through zero downtime and substantial savings from a total cost of ownership perspective.
