Rosemount™ 3408 Level Transmitter Family - Non-Contacting Radar​

The Rosemount™ 3408 is well suited for a broad range of liquid and solids level measurement applications where reliable 80 GHz non-contacting radar performance, easy setup, and advanced diagnostics are needed. It can support inventory management, process control, safety applications, and remote monitoring of tanks, vessels, and silos across industries such as chemical, water and wastewater, food and beverage, power, mining, and bulk material handling.

The Rosemount 3408 is designed to adapt to a wide range of installations. It supports nozzles as small as ¾ in. (20 mm) and offers multiple antenna options to suit corrosive environments, confined spaces, open-air installations, and applications with internal obstructions. Non-contacting radar technology provides reliable measurement regardless of product density, viscosity, vapor, or changing process conditions.​

Different radar frequencies offer advantages in different applications. 80 GHz radar provides a highly focused beam that performs well in vessels with small nozzles, confined spaces, short measuring ranges, and complex internal structures. It is commonly used across a broad range of liquid and solids level measurement applications.

26 GHz radars, such as the Rosemount 5408, may be preferred in certain challenging process conditions, such as applications with heavy turbulence, thick foam where measurement of the true liquid surface is required, or vapors from highly polar liquids such as methanol, ethanol, ammonia, or acetone. Application requirements such as process conditions, vessel design, product characteristics, and measuring range should always be considered when selecting a radar level transmitter.

Smart Echo Supervision™ continuously evaluates radar echoes and automatically suppresses false reflections from nozzles, valves, and internal structures. This helps the transmitter distinguish the true product surface from unwanted reflections and reduces the need for manual adjustments or troubleshooting.​

Yes. The Rosemount™ 3408 supports installations with nozzles as small as ¾ in. (20 mm), making it suitable for tanks and vessels with limited mounting space. Multiple antenna options provide additional flexibility for retrofit and new installations.

In addition, modular design features such as cassette replacement and remote configuration capabilities help reduce maintenance effort and minimize time spent in the field.​

Yes. The Rosemount 3408 is available with SIL 2 certification in accordance with IEC 61508, making it suitable for use in safety instrumented systems. Features such as remote proof testing, automated test documentation, and guided verification workflows help simplify compliance efforts while reducing maintenance time and process interruptions. (Note: SIL 2 certification is not available on the WirelessHART® version.)​

Wireless radar level transmitters are often used in remote or difficult‑to‑access locations where installing signal wiring would be expensive, complex, or impractical.
