Frequently Asked Questions

A CEMS, or Continuous Emission Monitoring System, is a system that continuously monitors and records emissions from industrial sources, such as power plants, refineries, and other facilities. It measures pollutants like sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), and carbon dioxide (CO2). CEMS help ensure compliance with environmental regulations and provide data for process optimization.

Typically, the most common emissions that are monitored and reported are nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulfur dioxide (SO2), carbon monoxide (CO) and particulate matter (PM).  However, many other components can be measured and required for reporting compliance.

Emerson delivers fully integrated Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems. This includes design, fabrication, and integration of
  • World Class Gas Analyzers Sample Handling Systems which draw and condition a sample from a stack
  • Data Aquisition & Handling System (DAHS) to act as the brains of a system controlling calibration & validation, blowback, and reporting requirements
  • Custom Engineered Sample Handling Systems which draws and conditions a sample from a process stack

Alongside long-term Lifecycle support, Emerson delivers confidence in compliance-based emissions monitoring.

QCL is among the latest technologies that measure many different compounds in a single analyzer as opposed to an analyzer that is dedicated to only one or two components.  Additionally, the CT series analyzers add the capability of TDL, allowing for components in both the near infrared and mid infrared region of spectra analysis to be captured.  With up to six laser modules per analyzer, the CT series analyzer can measure up to twelve components simultaneously including water vapor content.
