Meter Verification to Deliver Absolute Measurement Confidence

Smart Meter Verification is automatic diagnostic software, available for flow meter and level transmitters, that checks meter performance in real time— without process interruption. It ensures measurement accuracy, helps determine optimal calibration timing, and can reduce field visits when integrated with a digital control network.

How It Works

Smart Meter Verification - Technology

Technology

Smart Meter Verification is a diagnostic tool for Coriolis, Magnetic, and Ultrasonic flow meters, and Non-Contacting Radar Level Transmitters. It uses on-board diagnostics to monitor key indicators like tube stiffness, output parameters, and transducer health— helping maintain accuracy, ensure meter integrity, and reduce costs through early issue detection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Smart Meter Verification (SMV) is Emerson’s advanced diagnostic solution for ensuring flow meter performance, accuracy, and compliance—without interrupting your process. Learn more about it in these FAQs.

Smart Meter Verification is Emerson’s diagnostic software that automatically evaluates the performance and integrity of flow meters and level transmitters—specifically Micro Motion™ Coriolis, Rosemount™ Magnetic, Ultrasonic flow meters, and Rosemount Non-Contacting Radar Level Transmitters. It performs  checks without interrupting the process, ensuring accurate and reliable measurements.

SMV uses embedded diagnostics within the level or flow meter's transmitter to monitor key performance indicators. For Coriolis meters, it assesses tube stiffness; for Magnetic meters, it checks output parameters; and for Ultrasonic meters and Level Transmitters, it evaluates transducer health. These diagnostics compare current measurements to baseline values established during calibration, detecting any deviations that may indicate issues.

In-line Verification: Performs diagnostics without halting the process flow.

Quick Diagnostics: Completes verification in under 90 seconds.

Cost Savings: Reduces the need for manual inspections and outsourced calibration services.

Regulatory Compliance: Provides documentation recognized by agencies like the EPA, FDA, and ISO.

Predictive Maintenance: Identifies potential issues early, allowing for proactive maintenance.

SMV generates time-stamped PDF reports that are recognized by various regulatory bodies, including the EPA, FDA, AGA, and ISO. These reports can extend proof-test and recalibration intervals, aiding in compliance and reducing operational costs.

Yes, advanced versions of SMV can detect non-uniform coating, corrosion, and other common process challenges. This capability enhances preventive maintenance programs and supports the implementation of Industry 4.0 strategies.

SMV can be integrated with wireless communication options, such as Bluetooth® displays, allowing for remote diagnostics and reducing the need for personnel to enter hazardous areas. This enhances safety and minimizes the requirement for hot work permits.

SMV reports can be accessed through various platforms, including the flow transmitter's local operator interface, digital control networks like WirelessHART®, Modbus, FOUNDATION Fieldbus™, and software tools such as AMS Device Manager and ProLink III.
