Reducing Costs and Improving Efficiencies in Copper Mining by Measuring Net Solids

A More Accurate and Safer Alternative to Nucleonic Densitometers

When extracting copper from ore, the measurements around the crushers hold the key to reducing facility costs and improving their net efficiencies. The net solids measurement coming off the crushers indicate whether there is enough raw material for the chemicals in the next step to process and ensure the copper can be extracted. Net solids are calculated using a volumetric flow rate and a density measurement.

Rosemount Slurry Magnetic Flow Meter is an ideal solution to obtain an accurate flow measurement of the aggressive process flow. The Micro Motion Fork Density Meter measures the concentration of the solids in the slurry and combines that with the flow measurement to calculate the net flow of solids. This combination of devices is low maintenance, requires no special training or government oversight, can handle the aggressive nature of the application, and eliminates the environmental and safety hazards from nucleonic devices.
