Frequently Asked Questions
Our fuel measurement system boosts operational efficiency with accurate, real-time fuel data. This FAQ answers key questions about how the system supports reliable and streamlined fuel bunkering and consumption operations.
The Micro Motion F Series sensors are better suited for fuel consumption measurement because they offer greater resistance to external vibrations compared to the Elite Series. This makes them more reliable in marine environments, while still providing accurate and stable measurements ideal for this application.
Case 1 and Case 2 refer to different fuel consumption measurement setups. Case 1 uses a single Coriolis flow meter to measure the total fuel flow to the engine or day tank. Case 2 uses two Coriolis flow meters—one for the supply line and one for the return line. Fuel consumption is then calculated as the difference between supply and return flow, offering more detailed monitoring.
Emerson’s U-shaped Coriolis mass flow meters have a lower resonance frequency, which provides superior accuracy when measuring aerated or mixed-phase fluids. This makes them especially effective in bunkering applications, where precise measurement is critical—even when air is present in the fuel.
Emerson Coriolis flow meters are being used for Alternative fuel across different industries including marine. We have supplied the meters for various applications for Alternative fuel types such as LNG, LPG, Methanol, Ammonia, Bio Fuel and Hydrogen.
ACM stands for Adaptive Consumption Measurement, a feature designed to enhance fuel consumption accuracy in marine systems. Since engines often operate at low flow rates where zero offset can affect accuracy, ACM automatically eliminates offset between the supply and return meters when the engine is off. This ensures highly accurate differential measurement once the engine starts, improving performance over standard supply/return setups.
