Conditions inside a boiler or steam drum are extreme, with high pressures and temperatures present. Inaccurate level control due to saturated steam can cause damage to the boiler, turbine, as well as other parts in the process. In some cases, a boiler water level falling under set-point may lead to the boiler running dry and exploding. Installing the Rosemount™ 5300 Guided Wave Radar Level Transmitter with Dynamic Vapor Compensation (DVC) in these applications increases process safety. Dynamic Vapor Compensation works by using a target at a fixed distance. Knowing where the reflector pulse should be without any vapor, the distance between the target and the apparent reflector point is calculated. This method compensates for attenuation in vapor space during saturated steam conditions, providing accurate and reliable measurement in extreme conditions, and improved safety.
